Student Training
Sexual Violence and Harassment, Anti-Discrimination, Prevention and Education (SHAPE) Training: All UCI students, including continuing students, are required by law to complete SHAPE Training. Note that failure to complete this training will result in OEOD placing a hold on your spring quarter registration.
What is SHAPE Training?
Training developed and required by the Systemwide Office for Civil Rights at the University of California Office of the President to fulfill the requirement established by State law (Section 67385.7 of the California Education Code) to annually train all students on sexual violence, sexual harassment, and prevention of discrimination and harassment to promote awareness of resources and reporting options.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I access the training?
To access and complete the course using your web browser, please follow these steps:
- Navigate to Canvas https://canvas.eee.uci.edu/
- Login using your campus credentials
- Click the ‘Courses’ link on the left Navigation bar and select the ‘All Courses’. This will display all courses you are currently enrolled in, including your SHAPE training course.
- Follow the steps detailed in the SHAPE training course to complete all three required modules
Please note that the current version of the SHAPE training is not compatible with the student Canvas mobile app. It is recommended to complete the training on a desktop. If a mobile device is your only available option, you may access the SHAPE training through the Canvas website using your mobile device's web browser.
How do I find the access code for the final quiz?
To access the code for the final quiz in your SHAPE course, continue through the course page by page, and find the code listed on the page directly before the quiz.
You can also click on the modules link in your SHAPE course and find the page titled "Final Quiz Details". The code is listed on this page. You can copy the access code and paste it where prompted to enter the final quiz.
Who has to take the training and how often?
All students (new and continuing) are required to complete SHAPE Training on an annual basis. The Systemwide Office for Civil Rights has established that the definition of “annual” is consistent with the academic year for the UC System (July 1 - June 30).
What is a passing grade on the quiz at the end of the training?
To be considered compliant, students must earn 100% on the quiz at the end of the course. Students may attempt the quiz as many times as needed to ensure they understand the material. Note that failure to complete this training by January 30, 2026, will result in OEOD placing a hold on your Spring Quarter registration.
What happens if I do not complete the training?
An academic hold will be placed on student records who do not complete mandatory training. This hold will prevent students from enrolling in courses for the Spring quarter.
I have already completed the training. Why am I receiving an email saying that I am non-compliant?
If you are receiving an email regarding non-compliance, our records indicate that you do not have a score recorded in the gradebook for the final quiz of the course. Please be advised that you must complete all three training modules, and the final quiz is located outside of the modules. The "knowledge checks" within the modules are in addition to the final quiz.
I completed the training after the deadline. When will my hold be removed?
If you complete the training after a hold is placed, please note that it will take approximately 1-2 business days for the hold to be released from your account. Holds will be automatically released within that timeframe. Requests for immediate removal of the hold cannot be accommodated.
I am a School of Medicine student or student employee. Do I have to complete the Canvas training if I have completed the UCLC training?
If you are a School of Medicine student or a student employee who has completed the UCLC training after 7/1/2025, please email oeodtraining@uci.edu and you will be granted credit. For any UCLC SHAPE training completed prior to 7/1/2025, you will not receive credit as it does not satisfy the annual SHAPE training requirement for students, and you must still complete the training.
What if I need supportive measures or alternative training for sexual violence survivors?
If you have questions about supportive measures or alternative training for sexual violence survivors, please contact oeodtraining@uci.edu or call OEOD at 949-824-5594.
I am a continuing student, and I took the Sexual Assault Prevention online through Vector Solutions in the Spring. Do I still need to take this training?
Yes. This training must be completed each academic year (once annually while you are enrolled as a student during the timeframe of July 1st to June 30th).
I am having technical difficulties with the SHAPE training. Who should I contact?
You may contact SHAPE-Support@uconline.edu for assistance.
