Definition & Role

The UCI Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (OEOD) is responsible for the University's compliance with federal and state laws and University policies and procedures regarding discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, and sex offenses. OEOD works to promote and integrate the principles of equal opportunity, affirmative action, nondiscrimination, and inclusive excellence at UCI.

What OEOD Does

Works to resolve complaints of discrimination and/ or sexual harassment through informal resolution or formal investigation. Responds to complaints filed with outside agencies including the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR)
Explains and clarifies federal and state laws and regulations and university policies and procedures regarding discrimination, harassment, retaliation and affirmative action.
Compiles data for the annual affirmative action and organizational analysis. Assists departments in adhering to diversity, nondiscrimination, and affirmative action guidelines during faculty and staff recruitment process
Offers a variety of training programs and workshops in sexual harassment, discrimination, diversity, cultural awareness, and cross-cultural communication for students, faculty and staff.

OEOD does not recommend, render judgments or decide the course of disciplinary actions on any issue or person.
