OEOD Offers a Presentation on Abrahamic Faiths
to
Housing Student Staff
On September 15, 2008, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (OEOD) presented a workshop to a group of forty-five student staff members from Arroyo Vista, Middle Earth, Campus Village, and Mesa Court undergraduate houses complexes.
The presentation, entitled “Abrahamic Faiths,” highlighted the significance of Abraham to Jews, Christians and Muslims and discussed many of the commonalities among Abrahamic faiths, such as shared values, peace and justice, love of neighbor and self examination. Moreover, the presentation addressed approaches for individuals to consider when communicating with members of other faiths and the importance of maintaining respect and dialogue between different faith members and groups.
Jessica Leggett, Apartment Life Coordinator at Campus Village Housing, said that she was pleased with the presentation and hoped it would “increase awareness and knowledge of the student staff members about some of the prevalent faiths on campus, so that they can better relate to other students in the housing community and on campus at large.”
“The Abrahamic faiths are similar, and we should celebrate these similarities rather than argue about the differences,” remarked one of the students who attended the presentation.

Raid Faraj, Senior Investigator/Diversity Educator at OEOD conducted the presentation.
