The University of California has continuously stated its commitment to excellence through diversity.
Recent efforts have included the appointment of:
The UC Office of the President has developed
and maintains a website on
Diversity at UC. Included on that site is a
UC Diversity Statement that was adopted by the Academic Senate and endorsed
by the President. The President and Chancellors of the UC campuses have also
reaffirmed their support for a diverse faculty, stating that faculty diversity is critical
to the success of the University of California, through their signed
Statement on Faculty Diversity.
At UC Irvine, the commitment is reiterated
throughout the strategic plan for the next decade,
Focus on Excellence: A Strategy for Academic Development 2005-2015. The
Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of Staff recently hosted a
neighborhood meeting open to the campus to discuss issues of diversity at UCI.
The UCI Medical Center continues to celebrate diversity in the health professions
via activities and events planned by the UCIMC Diversity Steering Committee.
The Provost institutionalized the ADVANCE Program for Faculty Equity and Diversity
Fall 2006. The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity provides educational
opportunities to the UCI community through its
Diversity Development Program and the
Diversity in Medicine course, as well as customized workshops on request.
More initiatives are currently being developed, proposed, and implemented.
